If you're managing your domain through Squarespace and need to point it to a different hosting provider, you’ll need to update your domain’s nameservers. This process allows you to delegate DNS resolution to another provider. Below is a detailed step-by-step guide on how to update your nameservers on Squarespace.

1. Log in to Your Squarespace Account

Go to https://account.squarespace.com/domains and log in to your Squarespace account.

2. Select Your Domain

Once logged in, you’ll see a list of your registered domains. Click on the domain you wish to manage. You’ll be taken to a URL like the following:

https://account.squarespace.com/domains/managed/yourdomain.com

Replace “yourdomain.com” with your actual domain name.

3. Go to the DNS Settings Page

On the left-hand menu of your domain's management page, click on DNS. This will take you to the DNS management section.

4. Access the Nameserver Settings

Scroll down the DNS page to find the section titled Domain Name Servers (or similar). Click the “Manage Name Servers” or corresponding option to open the nameserver editor.

You can also directly access it via this link (after logging in):

https://account.squarespace.com/domains/managed/yourdomain.com/dns/domain-nameservers

5. Replace the Default Squarespace Nameservers

By default, Squarespace uses its own nameservers, typically looking like:

dns1.p08.nsone.net
dns2.p08.nsone.net
dns3.p08.nsone.net
dns4.p08.nsone.net

To point your domain to another provider (like Cloudflare, Eka Sunucu, GoDaddy, etc.), you need to replace these with the nameservers provided by your new DNS host.

Example:

If using Cloudflare, they might provide nameservers such as:

ada.ns.cloudflare.com
mario.ns.cloudflare.com

Enter these addresses into the provided fields and save your changes.

6. Wait for Propagation

After updating nameservers, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours for the changes to fully propagate across the internet. During this time, different users might still be directed to the old DNS records until the update completes.

Important Notes

  • Changing nameservers disables all existing DNS records managed by Squarespace. You’ll need to recreate those records (A, CNAME, MX, etc.) with your new provider.

  • If you only need to redirect email or subdomains, consider editing A records or CNAME records instead of replacing the nameservers.

  • Enter nameserver information exactly as provided. Incorrect entries may result in your site becoming inaccessible.

Final Thoughts

Updating nameservers in Squarespace is a straightforward process, but it requires care. If you’re transferring DNS management to another provider, follow these steps to ensure a smooth transition.
